So how does this work?
We can begin a few ways! I offer a free 15 minute phone consult to answer your questions, hear about your interest in therapy and share what I offer and how I work. I also am available to begin with a first session online and get right to the work that brought you to this site and to me. After we connect on the phone or schedule a first session, I send over all the pertinent information and we get started. I am always available for questions at all points throughout the process.
Do I have to come to an office or can we meet online or on the phone?
I have currently only have availability to session with you online and can work with time differences and your unique schedule. I also offer sessions over the phone though prefer, for the benefit of the somatic aspect of this work, to be visually face-to-face. I am planning a return to in-person sessions as soon as covid resolves enough to do so.
How long can I expect to work with you?
There is no easy answer for this question, since each case is different, as are each individual or couple’s needs, and these may change over the course of of our time working together. Some clients come in once or twice a week, others I see a few times a month, and still others sporadically throughout the year for tune-ups or to work on specific issues that arise. I have some clients I see on an on-going basis and for many years because they benefit from the support and holding space that therapy with me offers for their lives. I also have folks who work with me for education, guidance and brief therapy for a few months and others who see me for a bit and return intermittently for variable periods of time. The duration of treatment is highly individual and therapy with me is tailored to your unique needs and where you are at in your life and relationships. While I do practice therapy modalities that have structure to them, I don’t have a system that I am plugging people through and our work together will always be relationship and specific to you.
Do you accept insurance?
No, I don’t participate in any insurance plans. But I am able to provide you with an insurance-compatible billing statement from me that you can submit to your insurer for reimbursement, this is most often done through flex spending portions of a client’s insurance coverage. I am happy to answer any questions you may have about this during our consult or first session.
Do you work mostly with individuals or couples?
My time is often split pretty evenly between individuals and couples. I see a fair number of folks who don’t have partners, are in a variety of kinds and styles of partnerships or are looking for help finding a date or partner.
What if I already have a therapist?
I often consult with individuals or couples who are in ongoing therapy but who need a fresh perspective on sex, relationship and gender identity and personal development matters. I can collaborate with your existing therapist or offer you a space that is very different than the work you are doing in primary therapy.
